Baked goods, who doesn’t like them? There are numerous varieties, and most of them are delicious. Although they are not very good for a diet, we simply can’t stay away from them. One of those great delicious treats are scones. They are most popular in United Kingdom, and United States, but different countries around the world also adopted them as some of their favorite treats.
So, what are scones?
Scone is a baked pastry that differs from most mainly due to the use of different ingredients. I tried the European version, and I can’t deny the deliciousness, but as I mentioned above, I like my scones sweetened. They simply go down easier as a breakfast or the afternoon snack.
What is the difference between biscuits and scones?
While they are undoubtedly similar, these two treats are still somewhat different. The difference comes from the ingredients used in the dough. Scones on one side are more solid and sturdy with a dose of crumbliness while biscuits are more fluffy and flaky. The reason behind this is the use of buttermilk in biscuit dough. This also gives them a more sour taste. The ingredients used in scones, which give them their texture are mainly cream and eggs.
Chocolate chip scone recipe
Scones in general are very easy to make, and these chocolate chip scones are not different. Take your main ingredients – flour, salt, baking powder, and cinnamon and dry-mix them together.
Now, let’s move to the wet ingredients. You’ll need 1 egg, brown sugar, and some cream. Mix all of the ingredients together. Now that you have two sides mixed, join them together and gently mix. During the mixing process slowly add the chocolate chips. Cut the mixture into separate pieces, and place them into the scones pan. You can brush them with cream or eggs to get a better finish.
To get the best possible results, it is smart to cool the dough in the refrigerator for approximately 30 minutes prior to baking. You can also leave them in the fridge overnight for maximum results, and you’ll have a great snack in the morning with your coffee.
