There is a widespread public opinion that electric skillets are not as popular as they were 10 years or more ago. But, actually, they are, and there’s no reason that they shouldn’t be.
The electric skillet is not just a handy device suitable for small college dorms and RV’s. In the right circumstances, you’ll find out how useful they can be, even if you own a fancy kitchen like in TV shows.
Especially if the electric skillet is dishwasher safe, and you’re not a dishwashing fan.
You can make any dish just like with traditional frying pan or cast-iron skillet. There is a whole bunch of recipes on the internet of meals that can be made in an electric skillet. Let’s first mention the easiest one, like scrambled eggs, pancakes, and grilled items, but also more advanced dishes like chili con carne and other dishes made by today popular chefs.
One of the best features of every electric skillet is that it can hold a temperature for a long time. So the food remains hot for a long period.
Let’s dive into the bunch of electric skillets available on the market and check if we can decide which one of them is the best!
1. Elite Gourmet Electric Skillet
Speaking of even heat distribution and temperature control, which are generally perceived as the most desired features of an electric skillet, this one does the job. One of the main reasons for that is the heating element which is built into the pan. So the skillet heats evenly and effectively.
It’s a bit larger which might be a problem if you have a small kitchen, but that also makes it suitable for making large batches of food. You can cook pretty much anything within it, but we found out it’s great for scrambled eggs.
It’s well made and durable. Make sure you use the non-metal spatula to avoid scratching the non-stick surface. It’s worth to mention the Elite Gourmet Electric Skillet is dishwasher safe.
The customer service is also great, and the skillet has almost 90% of positive reviews so we highly recommend it.
2. Presto 16-Inch Electric Skillet with Glass Cover
Heavy cast aluminum base with a non-stick surface and tempered glass cover are just some of the most important features of this 16” wide and 3” deep electric skillet.
It heats quickly and evenly. It’s dishwasher safe, but you can also clean it using the dish soap and the hot water. If you want it to last longer, use plastic or wooden instead of a metal spatula.
Also, grilling fans will not be disappointed – it gives in grill marks on the meat like it was made on an outdoor grill. It is thermostatically controlled so the food won’t get burned.
You’ll find out how beneficial it can be, especially on these hot summer days, since it doesn’t heat the kitchen as the gas stove does.
Just make sure you follow the instructions to season the skillet before use, and everything should be fine. We recommend this electric skillet.
3. Dash Family Skillet
As it’s said in the official description of this electric skillet, one of its main features is the rapid heating function. It quickly heats up to 450 Fahrenheit.
When it comes to temperature control, this electric skillet has just three options – low, mid, and high. There is no real temperature setting, so expect a bit experimenting. That is probably the only drawback of Dash Family Skillet.
Another, maybe more important thing, is that it’s described as a family skillet, which means it’s big enough for making a decent family dinner. Yet, it’s surprisingly lightweight.
It’s a fantastic, nice looking electric skillet suitable for home or outdoor use, family dinners, or parties with friends.
You can’t put it in the dishwasher, but putting in a sink and wiping it with a damp cloth will do the job since it’s very easy to clean.
When it comes to safety, one of the great features is a cool-touch handle.
It comes with a recipe book, and we must warn you that it doesn’t contain baking recipes. So, don’t be disappointed. We are sure you already have your favorite source of recipes on the internet.
Having all this said, we strongly recommend this skillet.
4. Zojirushi Gourmet d’Expert Electric Skillet
Now, this electric skillet is a more advanced tabletop cooking device compared to the previous ones in this article.
It’s a multi-function skillet which we could describe as a “three-in-one” device. It comes with three heavy-duty non-stick pans – deep-dish pan, suitable for soup-based dishes, titanium-ceramic flat plate for grilling, and adjustable steaming plate which steams vegetables to perfection ( and not just vegetables ).
It’s a well made and easy to use product, suitable for a decent size family.
It has a non-sticking surface, like all other products on this list, and although sturdy built, it still needs proper maintenance, gentle washing using the soft cooking tools.
A nice and clear dial allows you to set up the temperature you want.
It’s a bit pricier than the rest of the electric skillets on this list, but having in mind the functions it has, and the quality and durability of the product, it’s really worth the money.
5. Cuisinart Nonstick Oval Electric Skillet
Cuisinart is a pretty popular cooking product brand, so we couldn’t avoid including it on this list either. Unfortunately, this product just doesn’t justify its price, especially if you read everything we wrote about Zojirushi electric skillet.
Yeah, it’s easy to use, and easy to clean, but you need to use only rubber cooking tools. It comes with 30 recipes included. It’s made of quality materials and it’s big-sized.
Some of the drawbacks are that it makes noise while cooking, and the cover handle gets very hot, so you need to use the towel to remove it. The temperature control could be a lot better and it takes a while to warm up.
So having in mind that there is no perfect product and that all the other electric skillets in this article have some drawbacks, the Cuisinart skillet is worth mention. Yet, we are really delighted with Zojirushi Gourmet d’Expert Electric Skillet, and that would be our favorite skillet in the race for the best electric skillet title.
