If you’re a pet owner, a smoker, you cook on a regular basis or have an allergy issue, then you probably know why a good air purifier is really so important.
So, in order to help you make the air in your living space crisp and clean again, we bring you a list of 10 best air purifiers in 2020.
P.S. You’ll notice we’ve mentioned HEPA filter lot of times in this article. This is because this feature is extremely important when we talk about air purifiers. In order to get the idea, here is the definition of it: True-HEPA filter captures 99.97% of airborne pollutants; dust mites, pet dander, pollen and other allergens as small as 0.3 microns.
1. GermGuardian AC4100 3-in-1 Air Cleaning System with HEPA Filter, UV-C Sanitizer and Odor Reduction, 11-Inch Table Top Tower Air Purifier
It has two filters: HEPA filter and charcoal filter and UV light ( it only goes on if the fan is in run mode ). It should be vacuumed once a month to take out bigger particles and extend the life of filters. Filters can be purchased through the manufacturer’s website and replaced every 6 – 8 months.
Even though it’s a portable unit it does all that is made for: captures up to 99% of airborne particles including dust mites, debris, mold spores, plant pollens and pet dander as small as .7 microns in size, and removes bad odors.
The only negative side of this product is that it’s a bit loud, but not more than other products on the list.
2. Honeywell True HEPA Allergen Remover, 465 sq. Ft, HPA300
Within a half-hour after turning it on, you’ll breathe significantly easier.
It comes with HEPA filter and Carbon prefilter which enables it to capture 99.97% of the microscopic air particles 0.3 microns and larger ( at least the company claims so ). The prefilters should be replaced every three months, while the main filter should last you at least one year.
We also like it because it can be placed against the wall.
It comes with a nice and useful quick reference guide, so there’s no way you can mess up something.
No more sneezing and coughing, we highly recommend it.
3. Hamilton Beach TrueAir Allergen-Reducing Ultra Quiet Air Cleaner Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter and Specialized Odor Reducing Filter for Pets (04384)
This air purifier uses zeolite technology. That actually means that there are two carbon filters, which are better at removing bad odors than pet hair and dander ( even if the company claims the opposite ).
The feature we most like is that it comes with a permanent filter that can be cleaned and reused.
It’s quiet and unobtrusive and has 3 filtering level settings.
We would recommend it for small to medium-sized rooms, especially ones with the pets in it.
4. Winix 5300-2 Air Purifier with True HEPA, PlasmaWave and Odor Reducing Carbon Filter
- the permanent one, which can be cleaned,
- carbon filter which serves mainly to remove bad odors, and
- true HEPA filter.
The most important thing is that it uses a true HEPA filter which needs to be replaced once a year, and two other filters that need to be cleaned (vacuumed/washed) every three months, as it’s said in instructions.
It has a smart sensor that monitors the air quality and works well with auto-mode.
Another specific feature of this air purifier is Plasma Wave technology which works on a molecular level and breaks down air pollutants without emitting ozone.
It’s so quiet you’ll need to put your hand in the airstream to make sure it’s running!
5. Air Purifier 3-in-1 Air Cleaning System with True HEPA H13 Filtration Ionizer, Best HEPA Filters w/ Odor Reduction. Powerful 5-Stage, Three Fan Speeds, Large Room Ionic Home Air Freshener for Smokers
– pre-filter, which can be washed in the sink
– the true HEPA filter, which can be cleaned using a soft brush or gently vacuum, and
It’s good looking, the stylish product with a nifty night feature. After turning it on, within an hour air in your living space will be free of allergens, bad odors or smoke.
Also, one of the great features is that you can clean the filters yourself.
The unit is larger than we expected but extremely quiet. It really does the job. It’s worth the money and it is an A+ product.
6. Holmes HAP600-U HEPA-Type Egg Air Purifier, Permanent Filter
The Holmes Egg Air Purifier comes with a HEPA „type“ filter ( it’s unclear is it the real HEPA filter ), ionizer and three-speed settings. The filter shouldn’t be washed, only cleaned using a vacuum cleaner.
It’s a convenient product with a sleek and modern design, but it’s a bit louder than other products on this list.
It has a permanent filter that can be washed. After you clean it, if the yellow light remains turned on, you should reset it. You do this pressing down the check filter light and counting to 15 and the unit should be ready to go.
On the negative side, this air purifier does really little or nothing on removing bad odors. For the money, it definitely should have more powerful features.
7. AeraMax 100 Home Air Purifier for Allergies and Asthma with 4-Stage Purification
Even if it’s recommended only for small to medium-sized rooms, it’s still a really powerful machine.
It has a real HEPA filter, air quality sensor and it features a special mode for cold and flu season – extremely effective at capturing influenza virus from indoor air (based on independent testing).
What we don’t like is a pretty powerful light show, powerful enough to light up the whole room with colors changing based on air quality. And the product doesn’t come with a manual, you need to download it online.
Besides that, we highly recommend this product.
The Breathe Fresh Air purifier looks very classy and it aims to provide you a service that other products on this list don’t.
It comes with a UV Sterilizer that kills airborne viruses and germs and upgraded external HEPA filter. The HEPA filter is washable. And it’s just one of the things that make this product great. It’s quiet and leaves the house smelling clean and fresh.
On the negative side, this air purifier does produce ozone in low concentrations. Even in this case, you shouldn’t be present in the room while the ozone function is on. And you should take this warning very seriously.
The ozone is produced even while the ionizer function is on.
Make sure you read the instructions before using this product.
9. Coway AP-1512HH Mighty Air Purifier with True HEPA and Eco Mode
This powerful air purifier uses four-stage filtration system, as well as air indicator which comes handy when we speak about energy efficiency – if it doesn’t detect particles in the air for 30 minutes it automatically turns off the fan.
The air quality indicator should be cleaned once or twice a year in order to have accurate readings.
This air purifier doesn’t work as a fan – it pushes air upwards so the air flows vertically. The ionizer, if turned on, creates larger strands of dust that fall on the floor for sweeping.
Changing filters is quick and easy, just make sure they are available on the market.
In general, it’s a very quiet and very effective air purifier.
Absolutely worth the cost.
10. Dyson Pure Cool Link Air Purifier
This is the powerful air purifier, still lightweight enough to move it around the house. The company states that it automatically removes 99.97% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 microns from your home.
The installation process is smooth and easy and it really takes just a couple of minutes to get it running.
The purifier uses a replaceable filter that should last you 4,300 hours, or in other words, a whole year. It can be easily replaced.
If you keep it on the Auto mode it will kick in when it needs to, and it will not make a big impact on your power bill. Also, you will hardly hear it working, which is really important when it comes to sleeping well all night long while having pure and clean air.
The feature I like most is that you can connect it to your phone and control it via an app.
No complaints. It’s worth every bit.
